President and Sister Uchtdorf Visits Pine Valley

Dear Family and Friends,

We had a wonderful experience last Easter Sunday at Sacrament Meeting. President Uchtdorf and his wife just happened to visit our branch in Pine Valley. They were a little late so made their appearance during the opening song. Needless to say we were all thrilled to have them (except maybe those who were on the program - which happened to include Don and I). It reminded me of the ten virgins and wished I was more prepared.

The Relief Society had been asked to sing a primary Easter song so I had asked my visiting teachers when they came to visit in March. We practiced - one playing and one singing with me. The song was "On A Golden Springtime" which I was not familiar with at all. Well anyway on Saturday I decided we'd better get together to practice again and called the gal who was singing with me. She had forgotten about it but had a cold and couldn't sing a note. So I told her that maybe I could get Don to sing with me. She said, "Yes, tell Don that since he is my Home Teacher, he should do that for me." He replied, "That is a lot to ask of a Home Teacher." We practiced that evening and again the next morning.

On the program it was stated that the musical number would be by the Relief Society sisters. When we got up Don explained why he was singing. After the meeting President Uchtdorf praised Don for being a good Home Teacher.

He said that they had been told by 'your local holy saint, Elder Jeffrey Holland', what a wonderful place Pine Valley was………and how GREAT the people were. He just had to come to see for himself. They had to come to see this historic chapel. He said that with Sister Holland being from Enterprise and Elder Holland from St. George -------we were right in the middle.

He apologized for being late. He said it looked shorter on the map and with the speed limits............ He was so warm and down to earth.

He bore a beautiful testimony. He gave us a blessing. We had a lot of visitors because of the holiday and I'm sure they were all glad to have been in attendance. The spirit was very strong and sweet. I shed many a tear. I felt so privilege to have been there and even to have to sing -which turned out pretty good - not perfect.........but.........

I didn't get a chance to really talk to him - did shake his hand but there were so many vying for his attention. However when I shook his wife's hand she commented on how beautiful the song was and how well we sang together. I told her that we had run the Musical Theater for 20 years. She asked, "In Pine Valley?" Of course I said in St. George. She was so excited and said that she would love to see a production. But then she had to move along. They had a hard time getting through the crowd. She was so cute with her German accent.

I imagine that this is just normal for them every week but for us it was a special Easter Sunday to remember.

How grateful I am to have great men such as President Uchtdorf leading the church.

We hope that all of you had a wonderful Easter also.
